Project Concept

No Taboo Mom is a blog dedicated to breaking the silence around key issues that women face today. It provides a taboo-free space where real-life stories about womanhood, childbirth, motherhood, and the postpartum period can be openly shared. It fosters dialogue, allowing women to share experiences, learn, and support one another.

For this project, I created visually engaging blog designs, focusing on crafting digital collages using vintage imagery.

Challenge

The visual design for the No Taboo Mom blog needed to strike a delicate balance: it had to reflect the blog’s unfiltered, real-life content while still appearing modern and polished. The primary challenge was creating vintage imagery collages that felt provocative yet respectful. Additionally, the design needed to visually communicate the blog’s mission to shock and provoke thought.

Solutions

To address these challenges, I used a combination of vintage imagery and modern design elements. This mix gave the blog a unique look that felt both nostalgic and fresh. I focused on creating a central character for each blog post, with surrounding elements that reflect the context of the content. This approach helped keep readers engaged while ensuring that the visuals enhanced the stories without overwhelming them.

Key learning/Insight

This project highlighted the power of visual storytelling in sensitive topics. I learned how combining vintage imagery with modern design creates a unique and meaningful identity. Most importantly, I saw how design can help audiences connect with difficult conversations and make complex stories more engaging.
